Horror start to the trip to Sevenoaks, with the M25 carparked, a breakdown in Sevenoaks and then some roadworks. Most of the team arrived rushed and stressed at least 20 min after start time. So we agreed to play 25 min halves.
Our keeper didn't get a touch, they didn't get a single short corner, and they barely got the ball into the D.
We got five zillion shots on goal, but no goals. They were either saved or missed.
We would send the ball across the face of the goal where our players were, but no goals, we struggled to make contact with the ball right in front of the goal, and the ball ended up on the other wing of the pitch. Multiple times.
With no goals from deflections after the first half, the strategy was switched to passing through the D and getting a closer shot at goal. But still no goals.
We had a purple defender stop the ball on the goal line with his foot. Penalty stroke, but no goal.
Their keeper was something special, but as he spent so much time lying on the ground we should have got some shots through. A nil-nil draw is better than a 5-0 forfeit. If we had the extra 20 mins, we probably would have got at least one goal. Tom Conway (goalkeeper) was the unanimous people's choice for man of the match. Mark Roberts played his first league match with us (after playing in both friendlies), and was superb. Many thanks to Sevenoaks for providing both umpires.
(sorry about the artistically glowing photo - water on the lens)
