Gravesham came hard at the start and looked like scoring an early goal in the first two minutes. An early scare. But from there it was BOE all the way. There wasn’t really much more to say about the game. It looked like we had a good day where everything clicked, and they were having a bad day.
We passed around players (and scanned the field first rather than making a blind pass), moving the ball swiftly up the ground, just as we should have been doing in earlier matches. At times we were dancing along the field with the other team not coming close to being in the game. We took shots at goal, and we got goals in. This time there were certainly more close-in shots, passed through the D until we were in a good goal scoring position.
Fenno showed us a good short corner routine pre-game, and that worked very well, getting at least one, maybe 2, goals from it.
Some notable goals:
Zac’s first– half the team touched the ball, as we inched forward doing left/right passes on the left-side of the D. Zac was in the right spot and took the shot.
One of Chris’s – superb one-touch undercut by intercepting a pass on the run, on a fast ball moving from left to right across the top of the circle.
Zac’s second – short corner, played out after the final whistle.
Man of the Match to Toby with a hat-trick. Special mention to James Smith who played his first game with the 5s, jumping up from the dynamos and showed his talents. Alex Hayde also played his first match with the 5s, after several weeks propping up the dynamos, returning to the club after 6 years. Credit goes to Gravesham for not getting flustered as the game went downhill. And a big thankyou to them for providing two umpires.
