With only 11 players and no subs, we knew this was going to be a tough game. As we gathered for a pre-match huddle, our captain was locked outside the clubhouse, desperately needing a nervous wee—classic match-day chaos! But we pulled together, determined to show what we were made of. Just as our pep talk reached its peak, Sally sprinted back, rallying us for a firing start.
And what a start it was! Within the first five minutes, we netted two goals, immediately setting the tone. Laura smashed in a beauty from the edge of the D, the ball skimming the post before hitting the backboard with that glorious, unmistakable sound. Moments later, Amelia finished off a slick team move, perfectly set up by Vicky P. Blackheath erupted with celebration—we had the lead, and we weren’t about to give it up.
Ashford did manage to break through at one point, slotting in their first and only goal, but that was as far as they got. Fortunately, the frequent stoppages in play gave us just enough time to catch our breath and regroup.
For 70 relentless minutes, we fought as a team, passed as a team, and ultimately, conquered Ashford as a team. A gutsy performance with no subs, sheer determination, and a well-earned win.
Final score: Blackheath 2 - 1 Ashford
