Windy Win !

Windy day for a win!

Blackheath ladies 1s arrived at college meadow on Saturday 15th October feeling pumped after a strong training session on Monday night.

Jules set up a clear game plan and the girls eagerly started the warm up with the wind blowing and the raindrops threatening!

Despite Sal worrying for her washing, the first half started with Blackheath dominating and limited break throughs from Brom Becks. The run of play benefited blackheath as they kept the ball high up the field and predominantly in the Brom Becks half.

Despite constant pressure in the opposition D, the score remained 0-0 until the ball successfully found Vicky’s stick and was firmly encouraged over the goal line.

1-0 Blackheath and not a moment too soon!

The team held their nerve and reset at half time with some
positive encouragement and reminders to stay focussed from Jules. Surprise guest and not yet official assistant coach Alex also left the side feeling upbeat with her motivating words about zigzags and dimensions!

The team exerted continuous pressure in the second half and despite most of the team watching on in disbelief as a breakaway from BromBecks almost threatened their lead, they needn’t have worried as both ball and player were easily dealt with by fantastic goalkeeping from Sarah.

The team regrouped and continued to look for opportunities with some excellent defending, robust passing and attacking drives but the important second goal did not seem forthcoming.

A few interesting tackles were made and some certainly benefited more than others from the leniency of the umpiring with Jilly getting carded (much to her surprise) and Vicky too getting sent off.

Vicky returned determined and refreshed and more than redeemed herself with a high work rate and a nifty lifted goal to bring the score to 2-0. After dominating the game the ladies should be pleased with their strong performance.. and also the start of a promising winning streak before the half term break!

Pom : Vicky for scoring 2 goals
DOD: Jilly for the card
