Blackheath L1s welcomed Tunbridge Wells L1s to College Meadow for the first game of the top 4 clash weekend. A win for Blackheath would see them leapfrog T Wells into 2nd position in the league and depending on the Burnt Ash v Holcombe result, could see them in a position to win the league entirely…
T Wells got off to a quick start and swiftly earned themselves a short corner before Blackheath had blinked. Strong defence kept the ball out of the goal with Sarah MB making some vital saves but T Wells continued to pressurise. A few more corners were awarded and after 15 mins they took the lead with a well executed short. Blackheath were used to coming from 0-1 down and relished the opportunity presented to them. With Emma’s nan cheering on from the sideline, Blackheath switched it on and upped their game for the second half. T Wells found themselves scrambling in defence with Amelia, Rachel and Freya’s constant hassling. Across the midfield Emma, Vicki, Evie and Vicky supported well and moved the ball around nicely. Soon Blackheath were the ones earning the short corners and after a well injected ball Stan calmly slammed it into the bottom corner. 1-1.
T Wells tried to fight back but couldn’t seem to string passes together against Jilly, Sally, Hannah, Banksy and Stan’s defence with Ella leading the way with her superb tackling and commitment.
Blackheath dominated but were unfortunately denied a winning goal leaving them still in 4th place in the league…
