We love a trip to Marden Russets. The winding country roads, the rolling Kent hills, the autumnal orchards - and most of all the excellent post-match sausage, chips and beans. But before we could sample Marden's culinary delights some serious hockey needed playing...
Marden are always competitive and organised with some big hitters and nifty midfielders, but Blackheath took control of the game creating the most chances and having the most possession in the first half. We won a few penalty corners, but it was Emma's stunning goal from open play that broke the deadlock. Marden won a few penalty corners of their own, but our defence were solid (as always) and Sarah wasn't troubled too much in goal.
Half time: 0-1 to Blackheath
The second half saw more of the same with Blackheath being the more dominant team winning several more penalty corners that sadly weren't converted. Emma 'The Terror' Huxley decided to 'allegedly' take a player out with her shoulder and was sin binned. The team went to half-court whilst Marden had a phase of attacking play, but the whole team defended well. With 11 players back on the field, Blackheath pushed forward for an allusive second goal, but Marden held on and fought back looking for an equaliser. Emma 'The Terror' Huxley once again 'allegedly' unleased her deadly shoulders and this time got a yellow! There was some desperate/unorganised last-ditch defending from Blackheath, but ultimately the whistle went, and victory was ours!
Full time: 0-1 to Blackheath
Now time for the sausages, chips and beans...
