Saturday 24th September 2022

A crisp sunny morning awaited Blackheath L1s as they arrived at Holly Bush Lane on Saturday 24th September 2022 for the first league game of the 2022-23 season. Sarah MB was an early contender for DOD when she mistook the relaying of the changing room door code for a new formation but thankfully the team were sticking to what they knew and started the game with their tried & tested game plan.
Sevenoaks were quick to react to Blackheath’s first attack and were soon putting pressure on the defence but Sian, Ella and Banksy soaked it up with ease with Jen making some amazing reverse stick tackles. Vicky, Sarah & Jasmine supported Jilly & Sally across the middle and were able to counter attack numerous times but neither side were able to take the lead in the first half.
Grace and Sue continued to make great runs up front with Emma distributing the ball beautifully from the middle of the park - even having a few shots at goal herself.
A hairy 5 minutes ensued when Jules got a little argumentative with an umpire resulting in a yellow card for the Blackheath captain. Thankfully the team kept their cool and were able to keep Sevenoaks at bay even though they were down to 10. Back to full strength with 11 players, Blackheath won themselves a short corner which landed beatifully for Vicki in front of goal - the angle was not so good though so she selflessly slipped the ball to Sue who was able to find the back of the net and give Blackheath a 1-0 win.
