It started off being an unsurprisingly very warm November’s day. It put the team in good spirits and determined to grab a win! The ladies took to the pitch and paid their respects to all the soldiers that have given us our freedom today by completing a two-minute silence. The team used this time to reflect on this and set them up for a strong start.
Despite Emma flushing her air pod down the toilet, she did not let this stop her. She was tearing the pitch up and down with great determination, moving the ball between players so effortlessly and giving Sevenoaks Acorns a run for their money. She even slid across the floor a couple of times in the process.
There was some superb play through the middle and transferring the ball out wide. We were lucky enough to have two new players – Hannah and Freya, join the team who did a cracking job. Hannah was making some excellent tackles in defence and transferring the ball across the pitch with her powerful sweep. Freya was receiving the ball out wide and consistently making a beeline for the goal. Unfortunately, this time, no goals prevailed.
However, we were lucky enough to receive two penalty flicks and I am not sure if anyone understood why? Nevertheless, Sue was put under pressure to score. The pitch went silent, and you could feel the tension in the atmosphere. And yes, Sue did it – she scored the first flick. Everyone started cheering and celebrating! Unfortunately, Sue missed the second flick, but it is 1-0 to beastly Blackheath!
Yet, despite the lead, as the match went on, Blackheath was not showing how beastly they can be. As players got tired, their mentality weakened and some good chances at goal were missed. Blackheath knows that they could have secured more goals, but they are not going to dwell on this. They are going to use this to work harder and stronger in training and their next match against Canterbury 3s next week – they cannot wait!
