An unusually warm Saturday marked the women's 1st team's third match of the season. Following a compelling team talk from Jules, after facing two previous defeats, we stepped onto the pitch with renewed confidence.
Sevenoaks showcased several players with impressive skills on the ball; however, we remained consistent with our tackles in defense. Up front, Nell delivered crosses with both pace and accuracy, but unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize on these opportunities. A Sevenoaks defender received a green card for a tackle, leaving them a player down. This advantage allowed us to secure a short corner, from which Nicole managed to convert the rebound into our first goal. Good teamwork and effective short passing led to another short corner, resulting in Amelia scoring and extending our lead to 2-0. Sevenoaks received another green card for failing to maintain 5 metres, leaving us with an additional player advantage.
The second half began positively, with numerous short corners and attacking opportunities. Unfortunately, an injury left us without substitutes, yet we persevered. Blackheath suffered another injury, reducing us to ten players on the pitch. Despite being a player down, the team demonstrated unwavering determination, defending effectively in our half. With 20 minutes remaining in the match, everyone gave their utmost effort, ending in a 2-0 victory—our first win of the season!!
