Dear Diary,
I need to find my positivity glasses, I'm having a right fruit loop air head negative nelly day.
The game got off to a .... start, neither here nor there. Nothing spectacular & nothing horrendous. Canterbury had legs & with the run of play earned a short corner & converted to take us into half time at 1-0 down. Some would say, we were lucky to still be in it.
We tried (with questionable outcome) to up our game, intensity, speed & general energy! Our repeated attacking short corners, however, failed to find the back of the net, and frustration mounted.
As anticipated, the umpires quickly turned the game into something more resembling a card game, anyone for Uno?! Wanni earned the dubious honor of “dick of the day” with her contentious card, adding to the lack luster atmosphere.
Laura gave the home crowd something to talk about when she went flying for no other reason then trying to simply chase down the ball.
More goals were conceeded in the second half. We clawed one back, nothing heroic, and not enough to turn the tide, but atleast giving Laura some of her street cred back after her carpet burn trip earlier. Jilly had an “ok game,” nothing extraordinary to write home about but atleast keeping things steady, while Vicki B could seriously use some positivity pills given the overall gloom.
The one beacon amid this very grey day was Amelie, our player of the match. She was working hard and staying busy, and her relentless effort was a highlight in an otherwise frustrating encounter.
In the end, a 3-1 loss stings, but we didn't deserve much more.
Ah, I have just found my positivity glasses. Thank goodness that's over, now to relish the coming week for training & be back to our winning ways after the break! Oh my gosh, these specs are working already!!
