Blackheath W1s showed real determination to fight back in a dramatic finish against Folkestone 2s, despite not playing their best hockey for much of the match.
Folkestone started strongly and took the lead in the first half, capitalising on some loose defending to go 1–0 up before half time. Blackheath struggled to find their usual rhythm, with Folkestone applying consistent pressure and limiting clear attacking chances.
The game came alive in the final 15 minutes. Blackheath finally found their equaliser when Vicky managed to bring the score back to 1–1 and spark some momentum. However, Folkestone quickly responded and regained the lead, putting Blackheath under pressure again late in the match.
With time running out, Blackheath won a crucial short corner. In the chaos of the set-up, one Blackheath player stepped into the D too early, meaning the injector, Sally, had to be sent back to the halfway line. Kath stepped up to inject instead and, in an incredible moment, finished the move herself to score the equaliser.
It was a frantic end to the game, with all the key moments packed into the final 15 minutes , but Blackheath showed resilience to battle back and secure a well-earned draw.
POMs Kathryn and Vicky for their match saving goals.
DODs Flick for harbouring a monster hangover and Sally for her penalty corner indiscretion.
