ARE YOU HAVERING A LAUGH?

Blackheath held to a 2-2 draw

After a recent run of poor form, the Blackheath senior squad were ready to face the youth of Havering. They warmed up sedately, befitting their advanced years, and watched as the youngsters had their pre-match rave.

Blackheath started well, with good pressure in the opposing half and some early chances. The usual fluid passing between Jilly, Vicky and Sally was in evidence, with support provided by Banksy and Sue on the wings.

Against the run of play, Havering received the ball in space in the D, and managed to put it in the net, through the welcoming legs of Karen. This marked a turn in the game, and goalie Sarah made some excellent saves to prevent Havering from going further ahead.

Towards the end of the half, Blackheath discovered their rhythm again, and after some passing moves Barcelona FC would have been proud of, Rachael found Jenna on the left post for a much deserved goal. Not long after, Rachael and Jenna combined again for Blackheath to take the lead going into the break.

Following a motivational half time team talk from Coach Richard, Blackheath started the second half by conceding another goal to take the score to 2-2.

Blackheath had plenty of opportunities to retake the lead, however their short corner routines were not quite special enough, and too many balls went flying past the post or were somehow cleared off the line.

As the end of the game neared, Havering seemed to gain the upper hand, however the Blackheath defensive pair of Ceri and Karen, as well as Sarah in goal, managed to keep them at bay. Ceri's pinpoint aerial balls and well timed tackles can always be relied on. In fact she was so committed she managed to get injured in an entirely different game. It was this sort of dedication that lead to her being awarded Man of the Match.

The crowd had swelled by this point to almost double figures. They were in for a treat as surely the highlight of the game, maybe even the season, was still to come. Blackheath's midfield maestro Vicky picked up the ball on the edge of the area, and in the finest display of 3D skills seen this side of Rio, juggled the ball from body to stick, over the heads of several players and finished with a triple somersault. Emma was so impressed she stopped in her tracks, attempted to run away and fell over, earning DOTD in the process.

The result could have gone either way but the score remained at 2-2. Next week sees a return of the errant captain, and hopefully winning ways.
