Players Weathered The Rain But Alas No Glory

Players Weathered The Rain But Alas No Glory

Jenny Seale12 Nov 2016 - 19:10

Another close and hard fought match ending 0-1 against East London

The L1's knew they had to go out strong against top of the league East London. The focus this week was teamwork, "get it, give it" early passing, moving into space and keeping possession. The effort the whole team gave to achieving these goals could not be faulted.

The game was fast paced from the start even though the pitch was sluggish from all the rain. It was clear both teams were gunning for a win!

MoM: Vicky for her strength in midfield
DoD: Jen for a dramatic fall in the D after getting whacked by a 'Swing and Miss' from one of the East London Forwards.

Defence:
Ceri was using her aerial skills to get the ball out of defence ensuring the East London press could be overhauled. Karen made some great composed tackles on the left as East London tried to break away numerous times. Kathryn looked to take free hits early and placed some great balls down the line. Sarah MB made some cracking saves under pressure to keep the scoreline in touching distance of a draw or win for BOEHC.

Midfield:
Jen played slightly more defensively and managed to perform a classic diving reverse stick tackle to put the ball off the back line in the second half (however regretted it afterwards as she got soaked!). Banksy ensured she was available to be an outlet out wide when the team switched play. Jilly and Vicky hunted the ball down as a pair, intercepted numerous balls and passed the ball into space. Sally had great positioning, especially when East London tried to switch the ball down the left. Sue had a high workrate which was exactly what the team needed as the fast paced game began to take its toll on players.

Upfront:
Jenna, Emma, Biggsie and Amanda can play any position upfront and they proved that today. They came back to defend from the front and ensured someone stayed high to be the outlet pass. Particularly in the second half the forwards looked more dangerous. They turned up the pressure on the East London defence and edged closer to converting a goal, but alas the glory never came.

Next week the team will take the glory, the win and the three points!
