"Surviving" against Tunbridge Wells

"Surviving" against Tunbridge Wells

Jenny Seale20 Nov 2016 - 08:37

A fantastic come back match that saw BOEHC finish with a 2-2 draw

BOEHC Ladies 1's started their home game against Tunbridge Wells with inspirational music and words from their captain ringing in their ears. Keen to turn their visualisations into reality, Sue, Rachael, Amanda & Emma worked hard up front with strong support from Vicky & Jilly in the middle.

There were great attacks up the left & right flanks but a goal remained elusive. Jen held the middle of the park, but commitment to the team saw her presented with a green card for being overzealous in her tackling.

Kathryn & Ceri defended well with Sarah making good saves as Tunbridge Wells went on the counter attack but in the dying minutes of the first half a well struck shot hit the backboard. 0-1 to T Wells.

More inspirational words at half time but it wasn't until a second goal hit Blackheath's backboard from an undeserved short corner that Blackheath ladies really got that fire in their bellies.

Jen's pre match song resounded in everyone's head:

"I'm a survivor
I'm not gon' give up
I'm not gon' stop
I'm gon' work harder"

They pressed high, put huge pressure on T Wells defence and intercepted nearly every ball going. They moved the ball from Sally on the left to Sarah on the right and with Karen making countless runs the T Wells defence were confused (well they were when Karen slid halfway across the pitch on her bottom earning herself DOD in the process.. as Jen sighed in relief..)

Vicky used her silky skills to get in the d, visualised the corner of the goal and slotted it away nicely to open the scoring for Blackheath.

BOEHC controlled the game for the next 20 minutes enjoying the feeling of having scored again after so long! And with loud support from the sideline they continued to press. Sue worked tirelessly up front earning herself MOM but it was Amanda who finally fired the ball into the goal after a deflection from a short corner.

It was now 2-2 and the team continued to fight. Jilly worked excellently in midfield and was unfortunate to not score from some lovely drags flicks.

The final whistle ended the game at 2-2 but the team were pleased with their comeback.. And the feeling of scoring again. Long may it continue!
