A last minute change of venue meant Burnt Ash were able to host the first (and only) game in the second half of the East 2SE league.
Super keen to play after the long Christmas break the team arrived early at Dartford Technology College on a bright crisp frosty morning; so keen was Richard he walked in to the changing rooms before the previous ladies had cleared out, or even got dressed...
Undeterred, Richard's team talk went ahead with a slightly tweaked formation to start the game.
It seemed to make a difference with BOEHC looking strong across the field and having a number of chances at scoring. However Burnt Ash were the first to put the ball in the back of the net from a short corner against only 3 defenders (Sally having been sent to the half way line for breaking too early on the previous one).
BOEHC kept their heads and continued to pass the ball around the midfield and forward line well but were denied a goal as the keeper made some good saves. It wasn't until Vicki's reverse stick shot from the top of the d was rebounded to Sue's open stick that BOEHC were able draw the game level at 1-1.
Sue took a well earned rest & was replaced by Banksy who within minutes had mimicked her move & brought the scoreline to 2-1.
The left was working well with Kate's great defensive work & distribution and the right also with Ceri's amazing aerials. Unfortunately BA managed to break away & score an equaliser just before half time.
With all to play for, BOEHC went into the second half confident that they could topple the current league leaders. There were good runs from Jenna and Emma up front and also Amanda whose change of pace scared the BA defence & could only be stopped by tripping her up. Luckily she styled it it out gracefully in an almost ballet like movement and not like an elephant on a bouncy ice rink at all.
The bouncy pitch was not great for either side and in the end got the better of BOEHC. Burnt Ash won themselves another short corner & with Ceri breaking too early & being sent to the half way line they snuck a goal past the depleted defenders.
Another goal shortly after meant any points from this game were out of sight for BOEHC. Final score 4-2 to Burnt Ash but a well fought game enjoyed by all with lots of positives to take into next week's encounter with Havering.
MoM - Kate
DoD - Banksy for almost getting carded and Amanda for headbutting the pitch!
Thanks also to all the supporters who came out in the cold!
