It was a sunny Saturday morning, everyone was up early armed with a slight sense of panic - will there be traffic? Should we get the train?
Despite the anticipated road closures everyone was in high spirits and with many younger mascots in tow, we were ready to defend our ‘top of the table’ title.
The match started well with Blackheath maintaining a lot of possession despite the quick witted and strong Marden opposition. Unfortunately just a few moment in to the game there was a rather nasty finger injury requiring the use of the recently rejuvenated first aid kit.
At the end of the first half a much needed goal was slipped in by the wonderful Beth and everyone took a sigh of relief. The half time talk remained positive and we came out fighting knowing that we were better than this and ready to win, win, win!
Another well worked but slightly messy goal was scored and we were finally breathing comfortably but knew there was still work to do.
Tensions rose when they were able to slip one past Sarah M-B despite many many excellent saves beforehand.
The last 10 minutes were tense, culminating in a lot of ‘keep ball’ shouts from our coach Jen and Vicky the dribbling the ball off the pitch!!
Final Score 2-1
Goal scorers: Beth and Jenna
MOM: Sarah M-B (fantastic, truly awesome performance)
DOD: almost unanimously George (tackling Vicky in our D resulting in a short corner and various other changing room antics...)
