Match report
Blackheath Ladies 1s v East London Ladies 3s: A wet fight
Blackheath turned up ready for a tough match in the rain against East London who had been promoted into East Div 2 at the end of last season. Kitted out in rain macs and tracksuit bottoms (Sally choosing a perfectly suitable previous club’s pair), they started warming up on a soggy pitch with coach Aaron declaring that 3d skills would be impossible in the pitch’s current condition.
After a fine shooting drill that saw Kate demolish Sarah’s water bottle, the game commenced with Blackheath taking control early. Emma’s silky skills around 7 East London players earned Blackheath a short corner and after a socially distanced top of the d huddle a Jilly Special routine was decided upon. It was executed perfectly by Sue and Hannah who put the ball away cleanly dispelling the myth that one needs more than 2 hours sleep before a match.
Blackheath continued to apply pressure and a second short corner saw Jenna assist Vicky to a well placed goal which absolutely did not touch her foot as she slid the ball around 2 defenders and the keeper.
East London looked defeated and with their heads down Blackheath easily earned themselves another short corner. Sally received the ball back after the injection and fed it to a goal hungry Sue who was waiting to slam it into the back of the net.
3-0 at half time.
The second half saw East London wake up a bit however they were still unable to engage with Emma who danced around the whole team but unfortunately could not find the goal.
There was a scary few minutes where East London thought they’d scored a goal but Blackheath were straight up the other end with Sally managing to prove Aaron wrong and enact the pop 3d skill (mini fist pump) and pass to Charlie who was so desperate to get on the score sheet she took a shot at Emma’s head. She missed (head and goal) but the 3 previous goals were enough to seal a victory.
The ladies left the pitch to rapturous applause from the men’s 1s who were waiting to play next.
POM Emma for silky skills
DOD Sally for offensive tracksuit bottoms
