The Secret Mission

The day started with Ceri and Charlie arriving with minutes to spare due to a pre match secret mission. With the weather soon to change (confirmed by weather woman Sue Moore) Vicky kindly left her lights on to make sure we had good visibility in forthcoming the bad weather.
We started with good pressure and won a short corner. Sadly, due to an interesting interpretation of the rules we had a goal disallowed which Kate had in typical Kate fashion smashed away. There was an onslaught of pressure from Blackheath in the press and nothing was getting past Nina who won the ball with a quick pass to Alex who turned and scored a screamer on the reverse only to turn and see Charlie celebrating more than herself.
The drama continued after an excellent self-pass by weather woman Sue from stick to face that not even she could have predicted, resulting in a split lip and a small amount blood.

Into the second half and Charlie was to discover that all of Ceri’s chat about her being a 100m sprinter was a lie as the ball hurtled off the incredibly quick pitch with no one to stop it.
Sarah MB ensured her step count remained high with numerous visits off the goal line to save one on ones with the opposition. Alas there was one too many attacks by Ashford and eventually they got lucky with a goal to equalize. Meg unfortunately bottled it on throwing an aerial, but it didn’t matter she still found a way through the defence with some epic balls. Speaking of epic balls there was no stopping Sian and Jenna who linked up well on the left with some beautiful balls down the line for Jenna to pick up and drive in for some shots. Sadly, the keeper seemed to get in the way of them being a goal. Emma Huxley was amazing in every way and cannot be faulted (except it would be nice if she would score a goal). The Emma/Jenna shots continued until the last second and had we had another minute we are sure we would have had another goal.
Unfortunately, time did run out and the game ended with a 1-1 draw. HOWEVER things (things definitely not being the weather) were looking up as we got a point and our first post-match teas of the season with some delicious sausage (according to Kate) and cakes to celebrate Nina and Sally (who is one week younger than the formers) birthdays!
Post-game Vicky regretted her decision to provide floodlights from her car and had to call the AA to assist with a flat battery!

MoM – Alex (for ‘that’ goal) and Nina (brilliant in the press and some great skills all-round)
DoD – Charlie – for reasons completely and utterly out of her control given she wasn’t driving (cough cough Ceri)
