Blackheath Ladies 1’s vs Blackheath Ladies 2’s
Interclub showdown at the Meadow
The second league game of the season saw the much anticipated 1’s v 2’s at the Meadow.
With storms and heavy rain forecast, the 1’s were determined to build from last week’s draw and get their first win.
With the team resembling drowned rats and Jules’ words ringing in our ears, the warm up was completed and we started
Early pressure was soon rewarded with a short corner. Straight strike was the call and up stepped Alex. A cracking strike from the top was deflected in by Sue on the flick spot. 1-0 up.
Great work in the midfield from Emma, Vicky, Sally and Jilly meant lots of possession.
With confidence growing, Banksy, Ella and Jen were able to quickly transfer the ball and create space for the midfield to dominate.
Another slick move and a pass into the D, saw a high deflection. Sue was once more on hand to put the ball away in a shot that resembled a backhand overhead from the tennis court!
A third soon followed after a straight strike was parried, only for gadget arm Sally to jab home.
Further advances into the D produced opportunities and soon Rachael was on hand to hit a shot which came off the post and went in.
4-0 up at half time.
The second half continued where the first left off. With words of encouragement from Sarah MB in goal, the defence distributed impressively to both flanks and enabled Carlotta and Emma to weave mazy runs into the D, but frustratingly shots kept going narrowly wide of the mark.
With little time left on the clock, another short corner was won and Sue was able to convert and complete her hat trick.
5-0 final score.
POM - Sue for her hat trick
DoD - Sue for being too keen and scoring lots of goals
