On a changeable day that saw early morning rain replaced by warm Autumn sunshine, the BEHC L1’s found a way to return 3 points from the Shooters hill derby at the College Meadow Hockey Park. On the back of the 8-2 demolition of Ashford last week, the girls were
In good spirits.
Early exchanges were attritional at best with both sides matching each other for effort but not so much with productivity. By the 15 minute mark it was a case of both keepers having a good old fashioned game of statues as neither side registered a meaningful attempt on goal.
As half time approached, BEHC sprung into life through the silky skills of Emma Huxley, a feature that would become more apparent in the 2nd half. A now raucous crowd of former stars on the beers getting behind the reds, there was only 1 way the 2nd half would go.
Ella ‘the babysitter’ Dagnall was controlling the game, steadily transferring the ball round the back or skilfully picking out midfielders or forwards with a razor sharp slap that makes tracer bullets look like a shoddy invention and it was the link up with Lloyd, Pitt & Huxley that started to make the BE midfield engine purrrrr.
The motley crew of fans were now reaching pandemonium as Huxley and Letchford received ovation after ovation as they roared forward. A rare venture forward by Jenny Seale saw the experienced full back take a 5 min recess for her efforts, high 5 for the co-chair.
As time started to tick towards the mid point of the 2nd half, it was time to turn class into gold. Numerous deflections and swivel strikes from Sue Moore were being shut down by the BBHC keeper and it appeared to be drifting away from BE.
Step up Alex Bridge, precision passing round the D found Sally ‘the baker’ Wallace on the base line and she crossed the ball quicker than her Choco Banana bread was devoured and Bridge was on hand to tap home from close range and send the alumni mosh pit mental!
The remainder of the game was a case of keep ball win game. And that we did. 3 points and it was good night Mottingham. At the time of writing other clubs hand been bothered to put results in so we are top and that is that! We’re all off to enjoy an glass for Chateau Village Voitre Rouge at the Captain & New Members night. Bonne Nuit!
