Following the league break Blackheath L1s travelled to Canterbury keen to continue their unbeaten streak.
Arriving in the car park coach Jules’s dark shoes matched his mood but a pep talk from Sarah MB brightened him up and the warm up began (once Emma had sprayed her shinpads with deodrant and had a pitchside wee) but with Sally pulling a muscle the team reshuffled and started with 1 less sub than expected.
The first 15 mins were a tad shaky with both sides making unforced errors - the week’s break taking its toll. Not so for Hannah Bridge however who stepped on the pitch half way through the first half and made her presence known with precise interceptions & strong tackles putting paid to Canterbury’s attack down the right.
Jen, Ella and Banksy also put in solid defensive work and with Sarah MB batting away any shot with her cat like reflexes the game went into half time 0-0.
The second half was similar with end to end attacks but strength across the middle from Jilly, Alex and Vicky (when she wasn’t reverse stick hitting) ensured more possession and shots for Blackheath. Lotta and Rachel’s leg work was commendable and with Emma’s silky skills down the right culminating in a cross into the d, Sue calmly slotted the ball home to break the deadlock.
Final score 1-0.
POM Hannah for super strong defending.
DOD Sally for pulling a muscle in the warm up (closely followed by Jen for taking her handbag on the cool down..)
Thanks to Canterbury Men for the loan of the Halloween themed DOD outfit.
