Last match, another win.

The ladies walked onto the pitch, ready to win our last match before the Christmas break, against third from bottom, Marden Russets. Our ladies got off to a good start in the first half, placing the opposition team under extended periods of sustained pressure that saw us earn short corner after short corner and seeing them struggle to exit their half.

Our ladies created good channels, taking advantage of open runs down the right side of the pitch with Alex and Banksy working hard to pass the ball to Rachael playing forward, while Emma H weaved her magic through the middle of the pitch with her slick skills.

After a few minutes, the ball was moved quickly from defense to attack by Jen, Jilly, Emma and Sue to what ended up being a beautiful ball sent across the D to where Rachael eagerly awaited the ball’s arrival, to send it straight into the goal, making the score-line an exciting 1-0! Adrenaline pumping, the ladies wanted more.

Right before the end of the first half, our ladies were awarded another short corner. A shot was taken, resulting in the ball being deflected off the keeper and landing at the feet of our Central defender Ella, and with the force of her powerful slap, the ball landed up going straight into the bottom right corner. This left us at a 2-0 advantage, with Sarah, in our goal, being left unchallenged.

An encouraging team talk with Jules at the break, left us with the determination to get more on the scoreboard in the second half. Skillful running down the left from Vicky, while angling in towards the goal, saw a painful-looking collision that left a Marden Russets defender sprawled on the turf and in agony. A medical timeout was called, and the team had a chat with Jules. At the resumption of play, Blackheath were awarded possession for the foal. Slick passing led to the breakdown of the opposition’s defensive structure. Emma hit a beautiful ball into the D, where Rachel finished it off into the back of the goal, with Blackheath now 3-0 to the good! Blackheath were awarded another short corner and the ball was deflected off the Marden Russets goalkeeper and into Sally’s path on the left side of the goal, who reacted first and sent it into the back of the net. An amazing 4-0 win to our deserving ladies!!
