3 Points - but still in the dog house...

Blackheath vs. BBHC. It's always a hotly anticipated local derby. Blackheath needed to bounce back from a disappointing draw last week and were determined to secure three points. The team went out all guns blazing, and it was clear from the offset that Blackheath were the better side. Numerous chances were created in the first ten minutes with the opening goal coming from a short corner - the initial shot was saved on the line but Hannah quickly pounced on the loose ball, slotting it home from close range. Soon after, a wonderful ball from Emma hurtled into the D allowing Sue to finish with one of her trademark deflections. The final goal of the first half came from another short corner - this time it was Genie who pounced on to the loose ball and hammered it home for 3-0. Our defence (as always) were solid and disciplined with Sarah MB (in goal) yet to touch the ball.

We left the field at half-time feeling pretty pleased with ourselves. However, our smug smiles were soon wiped from our faces. Despite dominating, Coach Jules was not happy with the team's performance! Jules highlighted a litany of mistakes and failure to follow his instructions. With his 'displeasure' ringing in our ears we set off for the second half with our metaphorical tails between our legs.

Blackheath were more disciplined in the second half, desperate to avoid the wrath of Jules. The mid-field moved the ball more quickly and everyone tried to spread out in offence. More chances were soon created. Emma's lovely individual effort saw her beat three players and calmly slot the ball around a logging goalkeeper. Goal number 5 came from another short corner with Vicky slapping the ball home from the penalty spot. Genie was denied her second goal when the ball was stopped on the line by a defender's thigh (sadly, this was not spotted by the umpire).

Despite a 5-0 win the mood was mute at the end of the game. We may have won, but more is expected from this team if we want to consistently improve and progress...
