Blackheath played Tunbridge Wells on Saturday in a league table clash for second place. After a satisfying victory away in the first half of the season, Blackheath were ready for the repeat at home. The team got off to a strong start, fuelled by banana bread and a double warm up they were ready to come out fighting. With some excellent aggressive play and attacking breaks from the midfields Blackheath were unlucky not to convert in the first quarter. Despite the bracing winds and the drizzle, team morale was high. A one-on-one shot on the Tunbridge Wells goalie was well defended and left the score sheet at 0-0. Unfortunately, a run of bad luck for Blackheath led to a short corner which resulted in a goal for Tunbridge Wells. Blackheath went 1-0 down but plenty of time to go and the ladies regrouped at half time intent on setting the score straight.
The play was considerably better than the previous week and the team worked well together. Some excellent defensive work avoided further Tunbridge Wells goals but despite plenty of counter attacks and the majority of the second half spent in the Tunbridge Wells half the score sheet was left at 1-0. Some questionable decisions from the umpires did not help play however it was a strong game from Blackheath with an unfortunate outcome. With only 1 point standing between Blackheath, Tunbridge Wells and Burnt Ash there is still everything to play for.
POM to Jilly for excellent play in the middle and DOD to Alex for maintaining the family trend for green cards.
