This Saturday saw the Ladies 1s heading down to Sittingbourne for the second leg against Gore Court.
The first half got off to a flying start with very good possession and team pressing to hold the ball in our attacking half. A few shots on goals and a number of short corner attempts but a struggle to get the ball over the line. Thanks to a couple cracking saves from Sarah from their breakaway and a flicked short, we stood at 0-0 at half time.
Despite the score line all spirits remained high, with feeling of good flow amongst the whole team.
However…things started to heat up in the second half. As both sides stepped up their game, the umpires seemed to as well with multiple decisions frustrating both sides, ultimately leading to green cards flying left, right and centre.
Quick on the rebound of a number of shorts with save after save, Blackheath’s first goal finally came as Jilly reverse flicked the ball over their goalie to the top right corner.
Despite battling with the rather loud apparent 3rd umpires on the sidelines, we continued to step it up as Hannah slots another in for her first goal of the season.
The final whistle blew on a Blackheath short corner and the whole team was buzzing to step up having practiced some deflections the training session beforehand. But with a perfect delivery from Ella, it was of course a sneaky deflection from Sue between the goalkeeper’s leg that finished off the game at 3-0.
An incredible team effort which really shows from the joint 4 players named as POM (Jilly, Sarah, Hannah and Geni) and a joint TFC for Vicky and Rach for their green cards.
