Sevenoaks (5-0) BRHC 2's

After an intense three-week schedule of rest and carb loading, we were ready to get back onto the hockey pitch.

This was our second attempt at playing Sevenoaks away this season, due to the previous game being called off shortly before pushback thanks to a frozen pitch. Perhaps the regular visits were the reason this time no one ended up missing the junction for a detour around the M25.

The game started well, we were high on enthusiasm, but low on numbers with only one sub. There were periods of good play, but for some reason (maybe the sheer quantity of mince pies consumed), we couldn't get into our usual rhythm. Sevenoaks pounced on any loose balls like they were trying to get the last Quality Street and ended up scoring three goals in quick succession.

Zoe and the defence had a really good game, closing down many attacks. The scoreline could easily have been a lot worse, as the well-drilled Sevenoaks team created many goal-scoring opportunities. Some of us were relieved at the end to find out it was only 5-0.

Midway into the second half, we started to apply some more consistent pressure to the Sevenoaks defence, which resulted in a few chances and shots on goal. We also won our only short corners of the game, with some strong strikes from Hannah saved by the goalkeeper. One short corner was interrupted by Emma having to stop mid-injection due to having a cramp in the bum (TFC). Clearly, it was more used to being sat on recently than anything more strenuous.

Marianna was man of the match for coming to the rescue in defence as usual, as well as distributing the ball effectively, and some great attacking runs into the D.

It was a disappointing result, although almost made up for by the delicious homemade curry and brownies provided by Sevenoaks. Hopefully we will be back stronger for next week's trip to Gillingham.
