There was a strong and positive energy around the squad from the start today, with the team showing great commitment and work rate throughout the match. Despite the final scoreline, there were many encouraging moments and passages of play that reflected the progress the team has been making.
The first half was a competitive contest, with BEHC working hard both on and off the ball. The defensive unit put in a solid shift, producing several important interceptions and showing good composure when distributing the ball out from the back to start attacking moves. This allowed the team to build play effectively and maintain good shape across the pitch.
Going forward, there were some excellent attacking patterns. Several strong baseline runs created pressure on the Herne Bay defence and opened up opportunities in the circle. One of the best chances came from a well-worked move that resulted in a 2-versus-1 situation against the goalkeeper, showing the team’s ability to link play and move the ball quickly into dangerous areas.
The team also earned a number of short corners during the match, reflecting the attacking pressure being applied. While they didn’t convert on this occasion, the opportunities demonstrated the continued improvement in linking play and attacking structure that has been building over recent weeks.
Herne Bay managed to edge ahead before the break, leaving the score 0–1 at half time, but BEHC continued to battle hard in the second half. The work rate across the pitch remained high, with players tracking back, pressing well, and supporting each other in both defence and attack.
A special mention goes to Alexa, who earned Player of the Match with a series of excellent saves in goal that kept the team in the game during key moments.
The DoD award goes to Jen for an “almost” deliberate kick of the ball — a moment that fortunately escaped the umpire’s whistle but still earned some friendly post-match recognition!
Overall, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly the team’s energy, defensive organisation, and the continued development of attacking link-up
