The game was away at sevenoaks this week unfortunately we only had 11 so we knew it was going to be tough game away from home.
Luckily Freya and Nell brought their grandparents this week to ensure we had a few more supporters to match the oppositions crowd
Blackheath started with 10 due to Susi falling for that big error of going down the M25 instead of the A21 but I don't think Sevenoaks seemed to notice as we started high and put pressure on them from the start. With Amanda and Rachel holding the middle they tried to attack our left but they were no match for Rebecca and Amelia who kept them at bay.
They did manage to take advantage of our missing player and overload us to get a short corner but as usual Amelia and Rebecca were two quick and Ellie, Louisa and Ali had it covered. We had some great triangle passes and Freya Isla and Amanda did some great work tiring out their defence. They made a mistake which Isla took advantage of to have 1-1 on the keeper but due to her speed the rest of us couldn't keep up to get on her shot that went agonisingly past the left post.
We were starting to tire and then Susi arrived to many signs of relief or it could have been Amanda and Ali's lungs packing up from their colds.
The first half finished 0-0
We didn't have to worry about subs at half time so instead a good team talk and some haribo was enough.
We started strong with a flurry of long corners perfectly delivered by Rachel but Sevenoaks just kept clearing them back to us but we couldn’t make them count.
Sevenoaks got a couple of breaks but the sudofed Ali took before the game seemed to have the effect of turning her into a blockage in her own right stopping any real threat way outside the 23 with awesome tackles.
Ellie did come out and kick the ball once after wondering what it would be like.
Our moment came though with Nell, who had been getting loads of space on our right, picked up a pass Rachel who was playing in a more attacking role due to Amanda being knackered. A few missed tackles pushed Nell slightly wide but she got an excellent shot off at the top of the D and the ball smashed against the backboard!
An overjoyed Blackheath kept their concentration and everyone worked hard to keep our lead. Freya and Isla chased any players near them and put them under pressure. Susi got down low in every tackle and was unreal at making everyone do the press properly giving Sevenoaks no where to go from their hit outs. Louisa’s amazing positional play must have been awful to play against as she gave Sevenoaks no space.
Right at the end Sevenoaks had the ball in our D but Rebecca and Amelia just shadowed and give them nowhere to go. No one dived in but if the ball was there to win they won it. A sequence of play that seemed to go forever finally resulted in Captain AI smashing the ball clear. Amazing defending and as equally as good as scoring a goal.
The final whistle went and Blackheath won 1-0. Probably our best battling performance of the season with everyone giving 100% and considering we played most of the first half with ten also one of our most satisfying wins. Well done everyone! Match report by Ali and Amanda even though Susi got wally of the week for being so late. Player of the match was Amelia
